Jiyai Shin wins Mizuno Classic & sits on top as #1 in Rolex Rankings!

Congrats to Jiyai Shin for her win in  Shima-Shi, Japan this past weekend. The event took place at the beautiful Kintetsu Kashikojima Country Club. [now say that 3 times fast]

The 22 y.o. South Korean defeated 21 y.o. Yani Tseng by two strokes to take home the trophy. She carded rounds of 65, 66 & 67 to finish 18 under! Jiyai held onto the lead from round one to the last hole! While she may not be the strongest in driving average at 238.3, she was able to fend off Yani Tseng (with a 263.8 average), and all the rest of the ladies.

Jiyai's last win was in July at the Evian Masters. She now sits in 2nd place on the money list and has 170 pts to Yani's 188 in the run for Player of The Year.

In 3rd place was Stacy Lewis who finished at -15, followed by Miki Saiki at -12. Brittany Lincicome, Na Yeon Choi and Mika Miyazato all finished in a tie for 5th place.

Jiyai had 9 birdies and just 2 bogeys in round one, followed by 6 birdies in round 2 and no bogeys. She went into the final round at -13 and captured another 5 birdies, with all but one of those on the par 5's. She got rid of her bogeys on day one and finished rounds 2 and 3 without any! She was able to stay focused and birdied the final 2 par 5's, thus taking the title without a chance for Yani to catch up.

Jiyai will be sitting out this week's Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico and play in the final LPGA tournament of this season, the Tour Championship at months end.
