Brittany Lang is proof that Oakmont can give up low scoring

As this week's Women's US Open began, it was a sultry warm start on this tough course to say the least. As Brittany Lang stated after thursday's round one, "on any golf course you can shoot a low number". She also added "if you're hitting the ball good you can shoot a low number, if not then it can be a big one"!

And low number she obtained, with a 69 and on the leader board at -2 to take the lead following the first round. The heat was unrelenting and the greens a sun-beaten brown, Brittany has a 1 stroke lead over 2008 champion Inbee Park. Lang not only shot the round of the day, she did so at the time of the day when the green's were chewed up & very unpredictable at best. She finished late afternoon/early evening.

World's No.1 Cristie Kerr hit a +1 72, which she doesn't mind at all. She was tied with a group of 14 others, also with a round 72. Kerr was the first American to be top-ranked since the adoption of the World Rankings. She has spent the week following her perch at the top, calming down from the emotional ride she took off on following her monumental win at the LPGA Championship just two weeks ago. All one can say about that ride, is that is not going to be over soon, if Cristie has any say about it. So, sit down, be quiet and hold on fans!
