RICOH Women's British Open July 29th - Aug 1st

And off they go from picturesque Evian-les-Bains France, to Southport, England. This week, Royal Birkdale Golf Club will be the host of the RICOH Womens British Open. This is only the 2nd time at Royal Birkdale since becoming a major. The first was in 2005, when Jeong Jang won by 4 strokes over Sophie Gustafson. Par at Royal Birkdale is 72, and it plays 6,465 yards. Defending champion Catriona Matthew posted rounds of 74-67-71-73 to capture this title in 2009. She beat Karrie Webb by a 3 stroke margin. Catriona also became the first-ever Scottish LPGA Major Championship winner at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club. While at a different course this year, I expect the winner will take that title going even lower than Catriona's 3 under par win.

Will Jiyai keep the #1 Rank for longer than a week....only time will tell. Ai Miyazato did not this most recent time, after taking it from Cristie Kerr. The LPGA certainly has the excitement with several talented players jockeying for the coveted ranking almost weekly. It only keeps getting better, with each tourney!

Television coverage will be via ESPN as follows; Thursday July 29th & Friday July 30th 9:00-11:59 am ET. Saturday & Sunday airing will be at 10:00 - 1:00 pm ET.
