St. Andrews, the course, the weather, the mystery.....

Talk about a wild first two days of the British Open! First round leader was Rory McIlroy; the youngster who shot out of the gates like a horse at the kentucky derby. Not for long though, the 2nd round brought out shots at the mercy of a vicious WIND and they were flying in every direction! Golfers struggled to merely survive on day two.

Louis Oosthuizen however, didn't move in a backlash at the weather! He stayed ever so present through the 2nd round and held the lead over the final 11 hours on Friday, where the old course turned foul. He finished with a -5 67, just as the flags started whipping with winds that topped 40 mph. This forced the round to be halted for the first time in 12 years!

Tom Watson stated it perfectly, when referring to the weather opponent at St. Andrews, "She was naked yesterday, but she put on her boxing gloves today and just hit us with all she had".  What a great analogy!

The next battle will be catching Oosthuizen, who is a 27 y.o. South African who had made only one cut in his previous 8 majors. He was -12, 132 and had a 5 shot lead. The largest ever after 36 holes in this major since Bobby Clampett at Royal Troon in 1982.

I can't wait to see the stats after today's 3rd round is complete!
