After much speculation and purported leaks of possible picks, Captain Cory Pavin made his announcement this am. As per the hot topic on Twitter and as many suspected it would be; Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson and Rickie Fowler were named to complete the team.
Some say Fowler is to young and that this should have went to someone who has worked on the Tour much longer. To those fans, let me just say it's about putting together a winning team and Fowler has proven himself worthy by; making 16 of the last 24 cuts as a rookie which include 5 top ten finishes! Not bad eh? He also has played on the Walker Cup and has a 7-1 record.
Woods was happy and ready to do whatever Pavin asked of him. He feels it's an honor to be picked and he's ready to continue his recent found form once again, as the Ryder Cup starts in a mere 23 days! Stewart Cink will be the "3rd times a charm" pick and holds a 4-7-4 record for the 15 matches that he has played. Zach Johnson will be going for his 2nd time; the first being in 2006. He is both honored and ready to bring his best game and make his country proud!
Captain Pavin's latest picks will join: Mickelson, Furyk, Mahan, Stricker, Johnson, Kuchar, Overton and Bubba Watson. The Team USA will be looking to capture a consecutive win for the first time since '93! Statistically, Europe has won 5 of the last 7 and Team USA holds a 25-10-2 record overall.
Team Europe is made up of: Lee Westwood, Harrington, Luke Donald, Poulter, Miguel Jimenez, Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy, Ross Fischer, Martin Kaymer, Peter Hanson, Fransesco Molinari and Edoardo Molinari. They will be led by Colin Montgomerie who earlier this season had his share of personal downfalls in the public eye when he admitted to being unfaithful to his wife.
So for those that are against Tiger being picked, what about a Captain being guilty of adultery? Their play in sports should be judged on just that, the tournament at hand. This is about the athletes and their GOLF ability. Can any of us say our personal lives are squeeky clean and have no faults compared to our public personas? Many of us have skeletons in our closets and some just get let out while others remained locked away. It doesn't change their skill that has made them the golfer/athlete they are today. Let's all get over it and move forward. The teams are decided and it's up to the respectable countries to support them now! The trophy is ready for the taking!
Now, Go Hit Some Balls...........
