Wie & Kuchar capture 1st wins of 2010 season

Michelle Wie carded her first win of the 2010 season by defeating 4 players by 3 strokes. She also had a Hole-in-One during her first round at the Par 3, 11th hole. She brought a momentum into the CN Canadian Women's Open that no one could defeat. She held the lead through every round of the tournament. That is something that does not happen often. She had rounds of 65, 69, 72, & 70 to take home the trophy on Sunday!

Here is Christina Kim pouring Champagne on her good friend "Shelly" after the WIN! Would we expect any less from Christina? She herself finished in a tie for 21st place.

Michelle held on Sunday to defeat Kristy McPherson, Suzann Pettersen, Jee Young Lee and Jiyai Shin with an overall -12. Suzann Pettersen once again, could not break away from the 2nd place curse she has had hovering over her all season. Cristie Kerr finished tied for 8th alongside Se Ri Pak and Karen Icher. Cristie remains #2 in the world standings, behind Ai Miyazato.

Next up for the ladies will be the P&G NW Arkansas Championship Sept 10-12th. Coverage for the tourney will be  via the GC as follows;  Friday 12:30-2:30 pm ET, Saturday 4:00-6:00 pm ET and again 4:00-6:00 pm ET on Sunday.

The PGA had another first time 2010 winner, Matt Kuchar.  He also finished with a -12. Hmmm, coinicidences in both the score and the first time win of the 2010 season for both he and Michelle Wie.  He claimed the win after a one hole playoff against Martin Laird, who played an excellent tourney and for awhile was unstoppable. Matt now moves up to the top of the Fed-Ex standings. It is said that if he wins the Tour Championship, he will lock in the Fed-Ex title as well. One thing we know, is that he will be going back to East Lake and his 'ol college grounds of Atlanta to play, which was one of his top goals.

Sundays win was his 3rd consecutive top 10 finish. Not only did he shoot a final round of
66, his shot with a 7 iron on the playoff hole rolled to within 3 feet of the pin!

Now he moves onto the Deutsche Bank, where last year he finished tied for 15th place. Defending Champion Steve Stricker hopes to have a repeat performance and is not ready to relinquish that title just yet. His play has been consistent, with 8 top 10 finishes in his last 13 starts in the Playoffs. There isn't anyone who joins him with that status. Stricker finished in a tie for 3rd on Sunday.

One thing we do know, is that the chase has begun and everyone's hoping to catch Kuchar. With Kuchar's win Sunday, he now has 3937 Fed-Ex points while #2 Stricker has 1365. I'm ready to see the next battle!
