The first round of the LPGA State Farm Classic has been completed. The leader is S. Feng at 8 under, followed by Juli Inkster & Na Yeon Choi tied for 2nd place at 7 under. There are several tied at 6 under and then many at 4 under and so on. With 3 days left, it's anyone's game!
While I was at the 18th green all morning, I then moved to the 18th landing area instead of going to the Tee box. This was a great change for me, since there was a very nice shade tree near by that I could take FULL advantage of in between groups. The landing zone was very popular, with a few hitting into the left bunker mid fairway. Beth Bader had a drive go out just across the cart path, which required the ropes to be moved for her to hit. Another shot a little further out and was saved by a couple feet from being out of bounds and into one of the yards (I won't name names). lol
I had the pleasure of meeting the family hosting Irene Cho and her beau, as well as Michelle Wie's puppy (while she is golfing). Word has it that Irene's beau is quite a good golfer himself! Christina Kim was busy fixing dinner with her host family (to which she posted a nice photo of on twitter this evening). While Christina may not have had the day she would've liked, finishing at 2 over; she continues to be a FAN FAVORITE! People love to watch her and follow her.
Ai Miazato's 2nd shot to the 18th green went into the water. She then dropped and the ball ended up on the line (which resulted in a delay to get a ruling on the first drop)......this lead to yet another drop! She then had a good out and finished the hole with a bogey. The next ruling needed was for Catrina Matthew whose 2nd shot ended up on the left side of the 18th green area nuzzled right up against the skirting to the grandstand.
The weather was again sunny and warm this am, but there was a breeze that continued until mid afternoon when it suddenly got calmer and clouds enveloped the course. Sounds of thunder in the distance and a couple of far away lightening bolts occurred. It was thought that everyone may be pulled in at any moment due. Once the rumble subsided a short shower ensued with only 4 teams left to finish. The weather then held off and all teams completed their round with a finish near 7 pm! Another long day!
A shuttle back to parking areas and then off to dinner with @ouicheee where, I over indulged in Crab Legs and @ouchieee was shrimped out!
Panther Creek is a wonderful course and the people surrounding it are as well! If you want a great experience and want to see some talented women athletes, you can get a ticket any day at the gate!
The latest word is that Jiyai Shin is doing well after appendectomy surgery yesterday afternoon. She is expected to be released from the hospital tomorrow afternoon. While Jiyai has hopes of returning for the Wegmans tourney....time will tell. Continued prayers for a speedy recovery Jiyai! Afterall, she wants to hold onto that #1 spot after she claimed such from Lorena Ochoa. :)
G'nt all........
